2026 Dry Stone Wall Taster course at Ewenny South Wales

Dry Stone Walling taster course, Wales

Nine participants had a great time down at a farm in Ewenny. The dry stone walling taster course in South Wales was led by two instructors Simon and John. Participants learnt about the limestone material that was available and a brief history of the deer wall, relevant to the nearby historic abbey.

The South Wales branch of the DSWA runs this spring course at a conveniently located site near the M4 motorway. With good access this is always a favourite for the DSWA South Wales branch instructors as the host is able to offer a place for shelter. This comes in very handy when there is inclement weather to have lunch in or provide a brief bit of theory. Thankfully with a course that is mostly hands on the weather was very fine.

Stone contact theory is discussed.

Over the course of two active but steady days the participants built up to first lift and then second lift to complete the wall. For complete novices they worked really well and built a stock proof wall. A further beginners taster course will be held later in the year and can be booked here.
